The Nomads Kitchen Filter Coffee Mug

The Nomads Kitchen Filter Coffee Mug

We are so very grateful to have been gifted; free of charge; a Filter Coffee Mug to review by the amazing guys at The Nomads Kitchen. That said, all opinions expressed in this blog post are my own honest thoughts and opinions. So here goes...

First Impressions

The Nomads Kitchen is a small innovative business that is 'made up of 9 friends from across the globe'. The business began in 2018 after a lack of availability of small amounts of cooking spices (when travelling) exposed a gap in the market. The Nomads Kitchen now specialise in products that enhance the enjoyment of food and drink when you are traveling away from home. The Nomads Kitchen believe that you should "Eat Well & Travel Often". Something that I totally agree with!

Ordering products on The Nomads Kitchen website is very easy and straightforward. They even have a comments section where you can add any additional details. As well as being given the Filter Coffee Mug (free of charge), I was also ordering (and paying for) a Spice Rack for hubby for Christmas. The only issue that I found when ordering was choosing which one of the portable kits that I wanted to buy as I liked them all! I eventually decided on the Spice Rack

I can't review the Spice Rack at the moment as it is stashed away ready for Christmas. However, I can already see what a useful piece of kit it is going to be! Firstly, the spices are really going to enhance our cooking when we're camping. It even has a small bottle of cooking oil. Cooking oil is one of those things that we always either seem to forget to pack when we are going camping or we can't find a small enough bottle to decant oil from our larger bottle into. Secondly, once a year, we go on a large family holiday (15 of us) with my husbands family. We stay in apartments or lodges at a holiday park. Again, the Spice Rack will be perfect for taking with us to use when cooking in our holiday apartment!

Anyway, a few days later, we received our Filter Coffee Mug (which The Nomads Kitchen were gifting us) and the Spice Rack that we'd ordered (and paid for).

We unpacked our Filter Coffee Mug (and stashed away the Spice Rack for Christmas).
My First Impressions were that I was very impressed with with the look of the coffee mug. It looked great, the branding was very smart and it was sturdy and solid feeling. It also looked very easy to use.

Although I had intended to start trying out our Filter Coffee Mug immediately, about 2 weeks later we were going away on our big family holiday and I decided that this would be a great opportunity to test it out.

Easy To Use

Once on holiday, with all of the rest of the family having gone swimming, I decided to try out my Filter Coffee Mug. Having removed the mug from the box, I found that it was very simple to use!

To use the Filter Coffee Mug, unscrew and remove the lid, take out the filter, open out the two arms on the sides of the filter and place the filter over your mug. (Of course, you do need to make sure that you wash the mug, lid and filter before the first use.) All that you then need to do is put your ground coffee into the filter and add hot water. Once the hot water has drained through the filter and into the mug, remove the filter (don't forget to empty and rinse the filter) and then add your milk. Finally, replace the lid and you are ready to go!

Having made my coffee, it was such a beautiful morning that I went outside to enjoy it.

I was very pleased that the mug didn't leak as I drank from it. There were no spills at all and it kept my coffee lovely and hot.

Out & About

The next day, we decided to go and play Adventure Golf. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to take a lovely hot coffee with me. I made my coffee as we were having lunch and an hour later took it to Adventure Golf, it was still beautifully hot! I really don't like cold coffee or even warm coffee. It has to be hot and this proved that this cup keeps your coffee nice and hot! I think that most of the adults were rather wishing that they also had a nice hot coffee to keep them warm.

Obviously, I couldn't hit the golf ball and hold my coffee mug at the same time. But because of the nonslip pad on the bottom of the mug, I found that it was easy to place down on different surfaces.

I even popped it into the large pocket of my coat.

As I've already said, this is a totally honest review, I would not ever knowingly write anything that is untrue. And being totally honest, I was expecting to test out and review my Filter Coffee Mug and then give it to my hubby to use. My husband is a real coffee addict and regularly uses a travel mug when he takes our son to his Taekwondo sessions. Don't get me wrong, I do like a coffee, but I always drink instant coffee. I do really like filter coffee, but it's a hassle to make! I used to use a cafetiere but they are really not very easy to clean, so I usually just stick to instant coffee.

But having tried out this very easy to use travel Filter Coffee Mug, after 2 uses I was converted! I told my husband that I would let him use it but that he wasn't going to have this travel mug to himself! Later that day, hubby was washing up the mug and wanted to know how much it cost. At the same time as washing up my new travel coffee mug, he was also washing up his old travel mug from a well known coffee chain. Hubby was so impressed with The Nomads Kitchen coffee mug and how sturdy it was that he wanted his own!

I continued using my Filter Coffee Mug throughout our holiday, when we were out and about and even just when relaxing in our apartment. It was so easy to make great coffee!

Back home after our holiday, I found that hubby kept borrowing my Filter Coffee Mug. So as well as the Spice Rack, he is also now getting his own Filter Coffee Mug so that he doesn't keep taking mine!

Just another time when hubby 'borrowed' my Filter Coffee Mug!

Everything That You Need to Know!

The lid of the coffee mug flips open to reveal the drinking spout. It's easy to open and close but once closed it seals tightly (causing a vacuum) so that it doesn't leak.

It didn't leak a single drop when I held it upside-down,
even though it was full of steaming hot coffee!

The mug has a nonslip pad on the bottom meaning that it
won't slip when placed on shiny surfaces.

The Filter Coffee Mug is strong and sturdy and has two slight indentations making it comfortable, safe and easy to hold. When empty, the mug weighs 310 grams and holds 380ml of liquid. We used our mug for our coffee, but you could of course put tea in it if you prefer.

I have been particularly impressed with how well insulated it is. It definitely kept my coffee hot. Hubby even commented that he now had to make his coffee to the correct temperature. With his old travel mug he would make his coffee and it would it would have cooled down to the temperature that he wanted quite quickly. But The Nomads Kitchen Filter Coffee Mug did exactly what it should and kept his coffee piping hot!

The mug is so well designed and did not leak at all when I drank from it. Being a vacuum cup; once the lid was closed; I was also able to put it in my pocket and even hold it upside down without it leaking a single drop.

I found that it was convenient and easy to use and was also extremely easy to wash up (unlike cafetieres). It also eliminates the need for coffee bags (which is how hubby usually makes his coffee when we are camping) and so is much better for the environment.

For obvious reasons, The Filter Coffee Mug and filter do need to be washed by hand. But it really doesn't take long to wash it up in warm soapy water ready for its next use. It really is so quick, easy and simple to wash. When not being used, the Filter can easily be put away in the travel mug for easy storage.

I hadn't realised that I would also be able to use the Filter on other mugs. But I soon found that I could use it on any of our mugs, including hubby's extra large coffee mug!

I am so totally impressed with The Nomads Kitchen Filter Coffee Mug! It's easy to use, keeps my coffee lovely and hot and it looks great too! It's ideal for camping, travelling, when I am on 'playground duty' for using in the office or at the park or simply for making a decent cup of coffee without the hassle. It is perfect for taking out and about.  You really can have proper coffee wherever you go!

Our Top Tips

Make sure that you make your coffee to the temperature that you like to drink it at. This travel mug is so well insulated and vacuum sealed that it will take a long time for your coffee to cool down!

Buy more than one Filter Coffee Mug as if there are any other coffee drinkers around, you may well find that yours might well be 'borrowed'!
